Hershibald Greyson Burke was born January 21, 1998 and went to doggy heaven on September 7, 2010. Pup to the late 'Ima Taxi Vadar' & 'Ima Tootsie Roll', and grandpup to the late "Budenhaugen Eugene Pemberton' & 'Queen Lady with an Ace'. Hershey was survived and loved by his family, friends, the neighbor’s cats, gerbils, and anyone who met him. Hershey was born in Wright, Kansas and he was given to Heather as a birthday present when he was six weeks old – exactly 12.5 years ago yesterday. Hershey was a very protective and devoted dog. He followed Heather around wherever she went and would sit by the door anxiously awaiting her arrival whenever she was gone. He never complained and he was always good for a hug, pillow, wiping tears, and forgiveness! He loved to be adored and climbed on by Schuyler, Morgan, and Graydon. He loved to swim, walk and laze about. When he was younger he loved to run and chase and was known to play fetch for hours on end. He could clean a coffee table with one tail swoop and when he drank he would submerge his whole snout and leave a big ol' slobbery trail. He loved the beach, camping, and outdoors, but he didn’t like to get dirty or lie on the ground – if there was a towel/rug you would find him on it. In his life he had chewed several sweaters, underwear, shoes, down comforters (yes plural), sleeping bags, doors (again plural), and of course bones. He didn’t like to be left alone, he didn’t like thunderstorms, fireworks, or parades *. He didn’t like to go on the boat with Curtis but went anyway, and although he didn’t like the vacuum ~ he was a good vacuum. He really was the best friend anyone could ask for and there is a void in our life without him around. We love you and will miss you Hershey!
* I think his aversions to loud noises came when we were in a rollover car accident and Heather was taken away in an ambulance. However scared of sirens, he still had great intuitive rescue instincts and once awoke our friend Ingelcia in the middle of the night when her gas stove had been left on. I alway loved that he followed my scent around the house and would go into everyroom I had gone in before finding me and laying beside me.
