We visited Santa as he arrived on a firetruck in Point Venture. Schuyler told him that she wanted a Nintendo DS, an iPod, and a hamster. Morgan was pretty enamored with Jolly Ol' Saint Nick, and said that she wanted a big light brown bear that is sparkly. Graydon couldn't get enough candy canes, but other than that wanted no part of Santa. Every first grader I have talked with wants the same thing. I made a speech one day about how these are expensive items and that Santa had a lot of kids to provide for. Schuyler then told me that Santa makes the toys and doesn't buy them. Pretty insightful. How does he make a hamster?
(I for one enjoy the lights, the season, the fellowship, but am disappointed with the materialism).

The first graders wrote a letter to Santa, and I think they are published in our local paper (I have yet to see it). Here is what Schuyler wrote:
Dear sant Nick,
I can't wait until Christmas I want a hamster, Ds, I-pod and a phone. I love you saint Nick. is Rudolph and the other randere coming to? i want sumthing for a kid that does not hav anything. i want for someone to have a house. love schuyler burke. ps. my fayvrite holiday is Chrismas. pps. i like snow. ppps. i love you. pppps. I made a stokin at school. by Schuyler
(Not sure why Saint and Christmas are both correct in one place, and incorrect in another).
