KINDERGARTEN ROUND UP
Today was Kindergarten round up! While I signed more papers than a mortgage closing, Morgan met with a teacher to go over things a pre-Ker should know. Everyone has pumped it up all week, and yesterday she said, "I don't want to be round up." When I explained that it really was just a time to get her signed up, she was excited! She knew all the basics (colors, letters, numbers) and she impressed the teacher with a few other tasks. She counted objects in order, wrote her name with capital M and then lower case, and she drew clothes on her person (tasks that I was told several kids didn't do). Okay, gloating?! When asked what she wanted to learn in Kindergarten she replied, "I want to learn how to read and how to make coffee!" Lol. She got to take her 'test' with Mrs. Woodall (Schuyler's Kindergarten teacher), and she couldn't have been happier. I can't believe she will be in Kindergarten!
EARTH DAY
Schuyler carried around a bag collecting all her trash all day (including recyclables, excluding bathroom trips), and tomorrow they are going to weigh them and then recycle what can be (and weigh again). I thought it was a great idea! The kids in the school have been collecting change all month to fund two new large trees in the front of the elementary (over $1000 raised) - and the trees were planted today. Also, each child in the school received a biodegradable water bottle to celebrate the day (last year it was reusable grocery bags). The bottles are really cool on their own, but the coolest part was that the logo I designed for a tshirt last year was put on the water bottle this year! "Lago Vista Vikings - Yellow and Blue Making Texas Green!"
From a paper attached to the water bottle, "Some plastic products can take 80-450 years to brake down. e volve (trademark) drinkware can naturally biodegrade over 1-5 years in a properly managed landfill." And it is dishwasher and microwave safe! Cool, right? I may not be as eco-friendly as I could be, but I think it is cool that I know "Earth Day" is April 22 every year, just like I know so many dates of other holidays! I do still recycle as much as I can. Baby steps. Oh, and to my sweet cousin, the bottles are "USA Made."
