Oh my goodness..... our baby girl had her first day of all-day Kindergarten, and our other baby girl moved up to second grade! They both had GREAT days, came home for a grumpy/tired afternoon, went to bed early, and are pumped about going to school tomorrow (we will see how long that lasts).
We went to 'Meet the Teacher' night last week. At the end of the night, Curtis had to tell me "you get what you get and you don't throw a fit!" I have to admit I was a little surprised and disappointed about certain things, but after some absorption and after the first day of school I know it will be a great year!
Morgan's teacher is Mrs. Dalrymple (aka Mrs."D") and I believe this is her last year before retirement. The principle's daughter is in her class - so I am going to take that as a good sign. Guess what.... I didn't cry at drop off - can you believe it? Morgan did great - she was very calm and confident. I was quickly distracted by a boy in her class who was having a VERY hard time. He lives down the street, has gone to Morgan's school and we know him a little bit. Curtis and I took turns trying to calm him down. Curtis' Shark drawing skills ultimately came to the rescue - and entertained the whole table. Meanwhile, Morgan was drawing rainbow pictures for Graydon to take home and I think is happy to sit next to her friend Enrique.
Schuyler's teacher is Mrs. Sherrin who I have heard is super nice and all the kids love her because she gives them candy. She got an A+ in my book of first impressions and seems young and vibrant. I think Schuyler's favorite part of the whole day was having her own desk and getting to put her supplies away as she wanted.
We got a mid-day text report from neighbor, good friend, and Superintendent of our Lago Vista ISD that both girls were having a great day (how nice was that?)!!! It was indeed a great day.
It is definitely emotional to think that Morgan just reached a huge milestone, and embarked on 17 (or more) years of education and learning. That she won't be at home with me every day being my sweet little helper and lover. That I won't get to participate in seven hours of her every day and will miss out on her special nurturing, giving nature. That her contagious smiles will be used to brighten the days of others. That her head-lock gripping hugs will be fewer and farther between. That she won't be here to play with Graydon and bring him his special lovies when he gets sad. That she won't be here demanding food and snacks every hour. That soon she won't want to snuggle and want 'soft tickle' things. That she won't be here to stash all her special belongings in secret hidden places around the house. She is so precious and special - where has the time gone?
