Oh my goodness, how cute is he? Meet Scout. Scout is so sweet and soft and fun! He wasn't cute when he woke me up at 5 o'clock this morning, but he really is so cute!
We weren't really planning on getting a new puppy. I had a breeder picked out and was hoping for a puppy in early 2011, but I think Curtis got a little anxious (believe it or not)! So one day he found a breeder, emailed them, met them during his lunch, and picked out a puppy! He called me and told to me to go make sure he was the one we wanted, and said that the puppy he chose was the one with the "B" sharpied on his tummy! So of course if I went to meet the litter we would for sure come home with a puppy! We didn't come home with a puppy.... we came home with two! I couldn't decide. I liked a different puppy than Curtis liked and this was a BIG decision. It was so nice of her to let us take two puppies home - it was so wonderful to have them both, but made the decision even harder. The whole family went back and forth up until the last minute and ultimately we let Schuyler choose the puppy she wanted (she was very undecided too)!
Scout to me did not seem like the brightest pup in the bunch, and he was the least energetic. I was concerned that our puppy was broke when he slept for the first couple of days and laid down to eat his food. He sat kind of sloppy, had to be carried everywhere he went, and I was worried that maybe his hips were already bad. My decision was based on - that if there was something wrong that he needed us and we would take good care of him! I think Curtis picked him out because he was the least energetic and because he had the biggest, softest ears!
Scout (aka Lazy Bones) is not broke..... the vet checked him out with flying colors. And it wasn't my imagination that he almost doubled in size since we got him! Even though I think he thinks he might be a purse dog, he won't be for long! He has gained almost 1/2 a pound per day in the last two weeks and is currently 29 pounds at 10 weeks! He is so wonderful! He is a mini-Hershey, but also so different. He would rather have a tummy rub than do anything else, he likes to dig and loves the dirt. He loves the bath and water, he is very mellow (so far), and sleeps though the night (except for today). He is such a welcomed part of our family and will be with us until Schuyler goes to college!
He doesn't have a AKC registered name yet. Schuyler wants him to have her same initials, so I think we should name him "Scout A-lazy-bones Burke".
