10 of my favorite things!

It was a busy week for me! Hmmm...... I guess every week is a busy week for me! Schuyler started "Bounce Crew" this week, aka as basketball. She was a little apprehensive about it, mostly I think because she didn't have any friends that she knew that were participating. Of course I want to encourage independence and individualism, but after I confirmed some friends were going to be involved she was receptive to the idea (although I think the apprehension is an okay feeling for a 5 year old).

I was glad she decided to do basketball, because it was $10.00 TOTAL until February, vs. the $80 that other sports have been (she even gets a t-shirt out of the deal). I think it is a fundraiser for the high school, so they will get to play in half-time shows.

Schuyler and Morgan are also both doing choir once a week at the church (where Morgan goes to school), as they have done in the past. Now Schuyler, however, has to take the bus there (have I talked about that drama in this blog)? They both seem to enjoy choir, and usually Morgan sings at the top of her lungs whether we are in the car or in the store!

Both girls had their Thanksgiving lunches at their school, which was so cute to see them dressed up like Pilgrims and Indians (bummed, really no pictures). Morgan’s school had a wonderful lunch with all food provided by the families, comparable to any Thanksgiving feast. Schuyler’s school, on the other hand, was more like “Turkey Jerky” as I called it (elementary cafeteria food).

I had a soccer game (lost), and my PTA newsletter was due (have I mentioned I am on the PTA board, and write the school newsletter)? I also designed a t-shirt logo for the elementary this week. Car problems with the ’99 Audi (please hold on a little longer). Not to mention planning for a weeks company with all meals, including Thanksgiving! Thank goodness for Kristall who is taking on half the work! I have started so much car pooling – which is nice, but a logistic endeavor. Thursday I had 5 kids for several hours, and Friday had as many as 6 kids – have I mentioned that I LOVE MY SURBURBAN???

Although I feel that I am SO busy, the busiest thing is Graydon. The Thanksgiving lunches were fun, but with Graydon in tow were a challenge. All the trips to the park were fun, but kept me on my toes with Graydon in tow (that little guy has no fear). Every chore I did was a chore, but with Graydon in tow was twice as hard (more than twice).

The reason for this blog post however, is because Schuyler brought home a book that she wrote, “10 of my favorite things!” I think I had mentioned her journal writing at school, which I talked about from memory because it had to stay at school (I couldn’t believe that she was writing and spelling on her own). This is what her book said:

I like Ava
I like Emma
I like Bree and lolepop (lollipop)
I like Henna and fowwos (flowers)
I like Savanna
I like Piper
I love mi Mommy and mi Daddy
I like Cak (Cake)
I like Noaw (Noah – the boy she has had a crush on for a year)
I love flar and hors and P.E (I love flowers, and hearts, and P.E).

All the friends’ names are spelled correctly, some words you can decipher, and others I helped translate…… but WOW!!!! Just when you think it is so amazing that your child can say their first word, to when they can talk, to when they can spell their name, to when they can write their name, to when they can write this all on their own. I am speechless and so unbelievably proud! This ten page book is of course beautifully detailed and illustrated!

Weighing heavy on my heart and mind this week was the thought of Schuyler having a sleepover. Other than family, she just recently had her first sleep over for a birthday party which I was okay with because I trust the Navarro’s emphatically, and because it was a special occasion. Tonight was just a sleepover…. She is five…. Isn’t it too early? Apparently not, because after several polls with my trusting friends, the census was that I just need to “let it go”. Bless her heart, Jeanie, Ava’s Mom, emailed me a play-by-play of the night, including when Schuyler went to sleep. Let it go…. Let it go……

Where was Curtis this week? With me every step of the way… working hard for Dell… working hard to support this family… working from home two days a week with distracting kids… taking time off to attend Thanksgiving festivities… being the best husband and Father a girl could ask for!

With Thanksgiving next week it really makes me think what we are thankful for – SO, SO much! Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday!

Excellent. I hope the book gets filed in the Schuyler Nostalgia Box, or something.

And yep, we've been on the receiving end of Morgan singing (Happy...Day...You) at the top of her lungs. :-)
