'Valuable Viking'

How does someone who has recently been pleading "it's not fair" receive an award for fairness? "It's not fair" is Schuyler's response to everything lately. It's not fair that she can't watch TV, it's not fair that we get to make all the rules, it's not fair that she has to go to bed, it's not fair, it's not fair, it's not fair! One day I let Schuyler make all the rules (within reason and with a few boundaries)..... candy and TV pretty much summed up her demands. My attempt did not alleviate the "it's not fair" battle.

Lago Vista Elementary just had their 100th day celebration. They have several fun activities and an awards assembly. Some kids are awarded for perfect attendance, and other's are awarded a 'Valuable Viking' award! Apparently to receive a 'Valuable Viking' award someone other than your teacher nominates you for doing something above and beyond. Students are recognized for an outstanding demonstration of character traits such as trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, citizenship, honesty, courage, diligence and integrity. Schuyler received the "fairness" award! Of course she couldn't make it to the stage without me shedding a few tears!

Although things might not always seem fair (to her) at home, I am proud to know she does recognize and demonstrate this trait so much to be awarded for it! From the left: Anson, Savanna, Schuyler, ?, Cali, ?, Cassie, ?, ?, ?, ?. These were the students from all four Kindergarten classes that received a 'Valuable Viking' award for the first 100 days! They received a cool window decal and a pencil. We sure value our little viking! And as Morgan would say, "LV #1!"
