A day in the life of....

I should say 'four' days in the life of ......... a family of five.

My day started out taking Schuyler to school. We walked half way to her classroom when she said that she was going to be sick, so we made a quick detour to the bathroom where she did just that (witnessed by two whispering onlookers). We went home where we were greeted by a fit throwing Morgan who didn't want to go to school (since sissy didn't have to), and Graydon whose small scraped hand from last week has (over night) turned into a dime size, red around the edges, blister. We calm Morgan down and get her ready, sit Schuyler in front of a movie with a bucket (not popcorn), then pile Morgan and Graydon into the car, drop Morgan off , and take Graydon to the doctor.

After an hour long wait (not bad I guess since we just dropped in without calling), the doctor said his hand was infected and could have possibly staph. We go back home, where Schuyler has a 103 temp and is pathetic enough that I had to carry her to the bathroom. She fell asleep and wouldn't let me move the bucket (the arm things are a fashion statement - maybe a blog about that later).

Rewind three days...... Saturday and Sunday I had a temp of 102 and knew that I had strep. The strep was confirmed at the doctor Monday, treated with antibiotics, and a day later I am 95% better. Sunday night Curtis started feeling the same, and was also treated with antibiotics. So Sunday night, Curtis and I were both miserable and next thing you know Graydon was standing in the living room and projectile vomited everywhere (the girls love to talk details). He proceed to be sick all night, but seems much better despite the hand! I think poor Schuyler may have caught both the strep and the belly bug.

Haven't these kids have been sick enough this year! Poor babies! As much as I hate to see them sick, and would give anything to take their place, it is nice to really be wanted and needed, to have children that want to be cuddled, and to have peace without the fighting and whining! Is that enough to compensate for a destroyed house, piles of laundry, and endless dishes? I think so.

And yet I am very thankful that this is all we have. One of my friends husbands is in the hospital with Crohn's disease complications, and one of Schuyler's classmates is back to school (in a wheelchair) after the removal of a golf ball size cancerous tumor and will have to undergo treatment for 1 year.

So Graydon is off with Curtis on a golf cart ride, Schuyler won't let me leave her side, and Morgan is at school (that is how I have time to blog when I should be cleaning the house).

And here I thought the only superheroes around were in the movies. :)

And I'm tired just hearing about it!

Wow, you write so well! That is a gift! I could say the same thing and it would not tell the story as you did. But the story in itself is quite a revelation of being thankful despite our surroundings, which is also a gift. Love you all, and hope everyone feels better soon. Mom and Ron
