We have had such a fun couple of days to kick off the first Burke summer break! Two days before school got out Schuyler participated in the Lago Vista Elementary Field Day! When I think back on my field day, I recall being in fifth grade and having standard events like the 50 and 100 meter dash, long jump, and shot put. I was pretty athletic and also recall receiving several blue (and other) ribbons (my Mom could validate?).
Schuyler's field day was much different and was a lot of fun. They had three stations (on the track, in the gym, and on the playground), and within those stations they had 10 or so events and activities that they could participate in. They were paired up with a classmate (Schuyler was with her friend Emma Eagle), and competed in sack races, chicken tosses, tug-of-war, a ball on top of a cone race, bowling, cart races, bean bag tick-tac-toe, and hoop ball, among other things! Schuyler was impressively athletic (am I biased?) and really excelled at the rope climb and a timed running obstacle course on one of the playground playscapes! She was really fun to watch and reminded me of myself (in my much younger years)!
Morgan and Graydon were at my friend Sarah's and it was refreshing to focus on Schuyler (or really just not to have to chase Graydon)! After having all three kids at the elementary for over three hours for Bubble day, lunch, ice cream party, and recess a couple of days before - field day was a blast!
On the last day of school, Schuyler's teacher, Mrs. Woodall, was hugging on her and stating what a joy she was in class and how much she loved having Schuyler as a student. This was a different side of her, considering in the comments section of this quarter's report card she wrote something inpersonable as simply as, "have a great summer!" When I look back years from now I would rather remember how much she obviously adored Schuyler, and the genuine admiration she had for her! Mrs. Woodall was a very good educator and I think Schuyler really excelled and benefited from her! She also loved the hand painted pot (with annual flower) that Schuyler made for her! Out of the entire school year, Schuyler only had one day where she did not have a "green" day (once for not listening). We couldn't be prouder of our baby girl!
After a morning at a nearby park with the Kindergarten class for the last day of school we were off to an after school beach party at the "adventure park" as Morgan calls it (aka Point Venture park)! I was again without Graydon (napping at home while Curtis worked), and although on one hand it was like a vacation, it was also a little stressful with over 30 kids in the lake and trying to keep track of who was who!
To really kick off our summer and to celebrate Schuyler's Kindergarten accomplishments (and Morgan's preschool), we went to Austin Park and Pizza! It was Sooo much fun! There were no lines and we had unlimited access to food, games, bumper boats, go-carts, train rides, tea-cup rides, miniature golf, laser tag, and other activities and rides! Schuyler was such a big girl and as you can see was tall enough and independent enough to do a lot on her own! Graydon loved the "Choo, Choo" as seen in the first picture above, and Morgan got "busy" spinning on the tea cup ride! After that, we went Noah Yetley's birthday pool party (Schuyler's first crush)! Then we crashed after days of "such a blast"!
